A chopping board with a strip of magnets (beneath the hardwood insert) that holds the end of the knife when chopping, secures steel bowls in place when mixing, and doubles as a knife rack when not in use.
I like the idea of using magnets in cookware. They provide a clean and efficient way to clamp and hold things, and work well with stainless steel cookware. The idea for the board came when I was thinking how to make chopping and mixing things easier. It occurred to me that if you had a magnetised region on a heavy chopping board, it could hold the end of the knife in place, and the weight of the board could help a metal mixing bowl stay put. Nesting the magnets beneath the surface keeps them clean, and the hardwood strip makes it obvious were they are.
